Critics praise new Michael Franti album

Michael Franti & Spearhead released its ninth studio project Soulrocker on June 1, 2016. Known for harmonious peace messages, Franti returns and delivers with his positive musical collective.

Early reviews describe a seasoned San Francisco frontman holding onto his roots while incorporating EDM influences. Toronto’s Exclaim reviewer Ryan B. Patrick hears Diplo in the autobiographical track “My Lord”, spilling stories of finding Franti’s birth parents with percolating rhythms and catchy melodies.

With foot tapping and smile inducing tunes “Once A Day” and “Crazy For You”, Glide Magazine’s Lee Zimmerman commends Franti for conveying deeper meanings without sacrificing popular appeal.

In a world where hopeful messages continue to be increasingly relevant, Toronto fans can check Franti out this Canada Day. Michael Franti and Spearhead join the TD Toronto Jazz Festival on Friday July 1, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. at Nathan Phillips Square.
